What type of TV stations/information are we really attracted to via news report, television programs or online?
I hope to believe that the average audience perfers to watch quality informative tv instead of trash tv. Many tv execs do not agree they say the average viewer is not very educated and what attracts viewers is sensationalism and tabloidism (like tabloid talk shows including Jerry Springer.) Tv execs also believe if the stories are too "foreign" people tune-out because they are not interested in news that does not directly affect them in one degree. This might explain why our average 6pm evening news is only "local news" and why you only see often violent stories (which falls under the "sensationalism" category) within a 50 mile radius from you and often missing the important global news. I beg to differ with tv networks and feel if the story is compelling enough than people will tune in because we are tired of all the trash reality shows like Dr. 90210, Real World or my personal fav, Celebrity Rehab.
I write this blog in hopes that people are compelled and interested in real human stories. Whether if it's a human story about a Tibetan Monk from Cambodia half way around the world or someone in your neighborhood it can in someway help you have a better understanding of love, life and relationships and in the end hopefully it makes you appreciate your own life.
It is a small world and we are all neighbors in this small place called Earth and "whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." A quote by Martin Luther King Jr.
you choose? PBS, CNN, TLC, BBC, Discovery Vrs. MTV, E!, ET, SPIKE
Sincerely,
Bianca Lee

I do understand your worldly concern for people around the globe only taking interest in mostly their own hometown, city, or local lives…I just think most people can be fed enough of these other world issues and grueling topics of politics, war, catastrophes, etc. through world newspapers, internet and “some” television but to tune into stations that do nothing but discuss these hair-raising topics…one prefers to take a load off after their exhausting days and see things that take away from their own daily stress like the latest musicians that play their favorite kind of music, stations that discuss things like the life of some of the most prominent and talented actors, artists and legends in the world. (Britney excluded) and a station that plays movies, shows, and news clips of some if not all of men’s favorite amusements, and delights…just as the women’s networks do for women. It is OK for these stations to be appealing to PEOPLE. We need that in our lives too.
While we are in tune and concerned for the lives of starving children in Myanmar, monks in Cambodia, mourning the poor victims lost in the catastrophic earthquake in China or the race for the next president, we are more concerned for our immediate families as would any human be. We want to know the rapists that are running around our neighborhoods, that can potentially strike our daughters, mothers and girlfriends, the drunk drivers that daily kill innocent people in our streets and the budget cut crisis in our country that is leaving many of our families and close friends un-employed and to the point of insanity.
There is only so much that people can take. We shouldn’t bash tv stations that help us keep sane by talking about other things that aren’t so disturbing. Besides, just being aware, and writing on the topics of these situations is not going to fix the problems. Whlie it is helpful, informative and very much appreciated we tune into the worlds issues enough by turning on CNN for a few, watching yet another global warming doc on PBS, reading BBC news online, or biancas united niche blog. I think we can much better start by making a difference in our OWN lives…our towns, our cities, our states, one country, one world at a time in this place called our universe.
