China is Darfur's biggest trading partner. They buy more than 75% of Sudanese oil and in addition sell guns to Sudan. Many believe this lucrative arrangement is buying Sudan diplomatic cover in Darfur. Beijing has blocked all efforts to send UN peacekeepers into Darfur. Prompting accusation that Beijing is complicit to the Darfur genocide.
Facts in Darfur:
400,000 thousand killed
2 million displaced (chased out of their homes. Often their homes and villages are burned down. Their alternative in the best case is to live in refugee camps most end up living under trees.)
QUESTION: is targeting the Olympics the only way to get the Chinese government to use its influence to stop the Darfur Genocide?
What do you think?

targeting the Olympics is just mega stupid.
jesus, grow up politicians.
PS: Lobbyists are helpful sometimes
I support the effort, but not at the Olympics. This event is to unite the world not separate. This is probably the only event left where the world can unite in peace. I find it important that young people exchange cultures and the Olympics does just that. By getting politics involved you may be creating a hostile situation where even the athletes can be affected emotionally and it can give cause to fanatics to even commit acts of violance like it has happened in the past. Please protest a valuable cause but do not use the Olympics. The protest asked for President Bush not to attend the opening event. This is wrong, the US athletes must feel proud and be represented by their president.

I agree...don't think the Olympics is the right way to target such a serious situation. I think people in power should start acting like ones...it's so frustrating!

IMO, for those wanting to help the Darfur situation, I would remind those to never stray from their integrity. Their is no righteousness in disrespecting a world-wide celebrated event like the Olympics. It is true that it brings a great disgust in the obvious contrast of the Chinese putting more care and attention into a sports event then in the deaths of thousands of innocent lives, but let's not take our anger out on the Olympics.
I suggest using our intelligence, putting our emotions aside, and marching on with honor in more a respectable fashion like petitioning our Congressmen, bringing more and more awareness to the issue in an objective manner (like The United Niche Blog) and instead of stomping around like brats for attention, using different resources to make an impact that would garner respect versus annoyance from those who we want to hear us.
